Reinforcement for Go-Ahead Bavaria: New press spokesman as of the new year

Augsburg, 09.12.2019 – Winifred Karg (54) will be the press spokesman and head of corporate communication for the railway company Go-Ahead Bavaria as of 1 January 2020. A qualified journalist, Karg was employed for many years as a public relations worker for a social enterprise. He was voluntarily involved in the PRO BAHN passenger association, where he was the deputy federal chairman from 2012 to 2015 and chairman of PRO BAHN Bavaria from autumn 2016. To avoid conflicts of interest, he will be stepping back from all his roles at the passenger association when he begins his work at Go-Ahead.

“We are delighted that in Winifred Karg we have gained an established expert in railway transport and the region as a spokesperson,” said Bastian Goßner, commercial director of Go-Ahead Bavaria. “We are continuing to build up our team in Augsburg and are looking forward to the reinforcement.” Go-Ahead Bavaria will take over some 10 percent of regional railway traffic in Bavaria in the next few years. As of December 2021, the company will start with the regional service from Munich via Memmingen to Lindau. As of December 2022, Go-Ahead Bavaria will also take over the regional service on the München – Augsburg – Ulm, Augsburg – Donauwörth – Treuchtlingen – Würzburg and Donauwörth – Aalen lines. For this project, the company is investing in 78 electric railcars and a train maintenance facility in Langweid am Lech. Go-Ahead Bavaria will employ around 400 people.

“A very hands-on fellow campaigner is leaving us, and we are very grateful to Winifred Karg for his long and intensive involvement,” said Lukas Iffländer, deputy federal chairman of PRO BAHN and deputy regional chairman of the passenger association. “In terms of transport policy, he has shaped our association in Bavaria, and even nationwide, in the last years. It’s good to know that there is a contact at Go-Ahead Bavaria to whom passengers are so important.

After decades of involvement as a passenger representative Winifred Karg will be working in the railway industry for the first time and intends to continue considering the interests of passengers. “Go-Ahead impressed me as a company, as their representatives I have met so far are experienced and passionate about the railway industry. I’m looking forward to the new tasks and will continue to make sure that the interests of passengers are taken into account as much as possible.”
