Second train driver course hits the tracks at speed

Augsburg, 20 May 2020 – Full of energy and commitment, 15 future train drivers have begun their re-training at the railway company Go-Ahead Bavaria.  In the first few months, they will learn about technical aspects and safety regulations. The training then becomes increasingly practice-based, culminating in the trainees driving the trains themselves. The final exam takes place after approximately eleven months, at which point the course participants are fully qualified employees and can drive electric trains for Go-Ahead Bavaria: from the end of 2021 from Munich through the Allgäu region to Lindau, and from the end of 2022 from Munich via Augsburg to Ulm, Aalen and Würzburg. Go-Ahead will then operate regional trains for the Free State of Bavaria on these routes using new electric trains in the state’s colours of white and blue.

The course was due to start in April, but this proved impossible due to restrictions caused by the coronavirus. The new trainees thus received Kurzarbeitergeld (reduced hours compensation), which Go-Ahead supplemented to match the full amount of the current trainee salary. Now the course has finally begun and the energy and commitment are clear to see. Commercial Director Bastian Goßner welcomed the new colleagues to the team and expressed his delight at their level of commitment. Go-Ahead can offer secure jobs to other interested parties, as the company has long-term contracts with the Free State of Bavaria until 2033 for the Allgäuer route and until 2034 for the Augsburger network.
